November 12 - 19 (week in review)

Sunday (11/13)
J and I starting watching the History Channel's series - Vietnam in HD.  his is an incredible series. Today we watched 2 out of the 6 episodes.

The Beginning (1964-1965)/Search & Destroy (1966-1967)
In 1965, Operation Rolling Thunder roars across the skies over North Vietnam and the first U.S. ground troops land in the South. American soldiers are outnumbered in the Ia Drang Valley, the first major battle of the war. Then, American troops launch widespread "search and destroy" operations; body count, not territory, becomes the measure of success in Vietnam. Charles Brown fights for survival on the bloody slopes of Hill 875 and at home, the American public begins to question U.S. military strategy.

Monday (11/14)
Historical Maps Class continues - MAPS OF MAINE AND PORTLAND

We will explore Maine's settlement and development. Using historic maps of Portland, we will learn of Portland's key events and milestones in its history. What is Portland's motto? Why did Falmouth burn? How did Falmouth become Portland? The Great Fire?

Tuesday (11/15)
Old York - Historic Medicine Demystified
Delve into the fascinating, mysterious and often creepy world of historic medicine.  Examine a 19th century dentistry kit, blood letting tools, a flesh searer, medicine chest, and other early tools of the doctor’s trade. Look at historic advertisements for medicinal cures and decide for yourself which are quack and which would really work. Make you own medicinal remedy to take home and use.

Wednesday (11/16)
J watched 2 more episodes of the Great Course - Understanding the World's Greatest Structures: Science and Innovation from Antiquity to Modernity

J and M also worked on their Future School Lessons.

Thursday (11/17)
Co-op day.  More OM, Mindstorm/Lego Robotics, Photography and Dinner Show classes.

Week 3 Photography was Photojournalism.  M took pictures of fire trucks while we were at the movies.  No real fire-thank goodness!-but we had to evaluate until the building was cleared.

J took pictures of the beautiful scenery for his story board.
